Gooey Salted Caramel Brownies with Sea Salt

  • Author: Olivia
  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 16 servings 1x

Description

Rich, fudgy brownies featuring a warm caramel ribbon and topped with flaky sea salt. This easy-to-make dessert offers a perfect balance of sweet and salty flavors with a dense, gooey texture.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 ounces (340g) dark chocolate chips (semi-sweet or bittersweet)
  • ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, room temperature or melted
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup (95g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons (10g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (240ml) caramel sauce
  • ½ cup (85g) mini chocolate chips
  • Flaky sea salt (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides, and grease lightly.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine dark chocolate chips and butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Whisk granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract into the melted chocolate mixture vigorously for 1-2 minutes until glossy and thickened.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gently fold dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared pan. Drop spoonfuls of caramel sauce randomly over the batter and swirl with a knife. Sprinkle mini chocolate chips on top.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes until edges are set but the center looks slightly soft. A toothpick should come out with moist crumbs.
  7. Cool completely in the pan on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes.
  8. Sprinkle flaky sea salt over the top. Cut into squares and serve at room temperature.

Notes

Do not overbake; brownies continue to cook in the pan as they cool. For best texture, cool completely before cutting. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
