Description
A budget-friendly, easy-to-make appetizer featuring a wheel of brie baked with caramelized pears, honey, and butter. Ready in 30 minutes, this dish is perfect for family treats, holiday gatherings, or last-minute guests.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 wheel brie cheese (approx. 8–9 oz / 225-250g)
- 2 medium pears (Bosc or Anjou), sliced into wedges
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 box crackers or 1 loaf bread (for serving)
- 1/4 cup walnuts or pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a 9-inch baking dish with parchment paper or lightly grease with butter.
- Wash pears and slice them into 1/4-inch thick wedges, removing the core. Leave skin on.
- Place the wheel of brie in the center of the baking dish. Remove any wooden box or wax paper, but leave the rind on.
- Arrange pear wedges around and over the brie, overlapping slightly. Drizzle half of the melted butter over the pears to coat them evenly.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until the brie is soft to the touch and pears are golden brown and tender.
- Remove from oven and immediately drizzle with remaining butter and honey. Sprinkle with toasted nuts if using.
- Let rest for 2 minutes before serving with crackers or bread.
Notes
Ensure brie is at room temperature before baking for even melting. Do not overbake or the cheese will become greasy. Pears should be firm but ripe; avoid mushy fruit. Leftovers can be refrigerated for 2 days and reheated in the oven.
